Why I started this site
When my first child arrived, I spent more late nights than I’d like to admit comparing baby swings — squinting at spec sheets that didn’t answer the real questions: Will this actually soothe a fussy newborn? How long until we outgrow it? Is it safe to leave running? The reviews I found were thin on hands-on detail and even thinner on safety. So I started documenting what I learned, swing by swing. This site is the resource I wish I’d had.
My experience
I’m a parent first and a gear reviewer second. Between my own two kids and swings borrowed from friends and family, I’ve logged hundreds of hours with powered swings, rockers, bouncers and multi-motion soothers — in small apartments and bigger homes, with easy babies and very un-easy ones. I read the manuals, I push the buttons, and I pay attention to the things that only show up after week three.
How I test & rank
Every swing I recommend is judged on the same criteria:
- Motion & comfort — how natural the motion feels and whether babies actually settle.
- Noise — motor hum, music quality, and whether it’ll wake a dozing baby.
- Safety design — harness, recline, stability, and clarity of the weight/age limits.
- Ease of use & cleaning — controls, removable seat pads, washability.
- Footprint & power — how it fits real rooms; plug-in vs. battery for your routine.
- Value & longevity — cost weighed against the realistic safe-use window.
How we research & fact-check
Picks are scored on a fixed, weighted rubric — never on commission. We cross-check every spec against manufacturer documentation and the ASTM F2088 infant-swing standard, read through verified owner feedback, and re-verify pricing, availability and CPSC recall status before each update. We don’t invent prices or specs; where something can’t be confirmed, we say so.
