How we choose & score

Every swing in this guide is drawn from our own hands-on reviews and scored on the same five-point rubric — never on commission. We weight the factors that matter most to a tired parent:

CriterionWeightWhat we look at
Soothing & motion quality30%How effectively and smoothly it calms a baby — motion types, speeds, consistency.
Safety25%5-point harness, stability, recline range, and conformance to the ASTM F2088 infant-swing standard.
Ease of use & cleaning15%Controls, assembly, and machine-washable / wipeable fabrics.
Footprint & portability15%Floor space, weight, and whether it folds or moves between rooms.

We cross-check manufacturer specs against the ASTM F2088 infant-swing standard, read through verified owner feedback, and re-verify pricing, availability and CPSC recall status before every update. More on the safety standards →

What Ingenuity swings do best

Ingenuity’s strength is light, foldable, affordable swings — many fold flat or run on USB, which makes them great for travel, small spaces and second rooms. Several use TrueSpeed, a weight-sensing system that keeps the motion steady as your baby grows.

Most Ingenuity swings cap at 20 lb and offer one or three motion directions, so they suit the newborn-to-around-9-month window rather than the longest haul. A couple (InLighten, Anyway Sway) have more mixed owner ratings — we flag that in each review.

If portability or price is your priority, Ingenuity is usually the brand to start with; for the longest weight range or smart features, compare against our Graco and smart-swing guides.

Baby swing safety: what every parent should know

As with any brand, Ingenuity swings are awake-time soothers: harness on, reclined for newborns, supervised, and never used for sleep.

Recall watch (do not skip this)

In October 2024, Fisher-Price recalled about 2.1 million Snuga infant swings after they were linked to 5 infant deaths (ages 1–3 months) from suffocation when used for sleep or with added bedding. Owners should remove and destroy the headrest and body-support insert and never use the swing for sleep. The 4moms MamaRoo and RockaRoo were also recalled (2022) for a strap-entanglement hazard, with a free remedy. Check the official notices at CPSC.gov and our recall guide.

Also beware uncertified swings sold cheaply on marketplaces: the Safe Sleep for Babies Act (2023) bans inclined sleepers steeper than 10°. Buy only swings that meet the ASTM F2088 standard.
