Baby Swing Club is a research-based publication. This page explains exactly how our reviews, comparisons and buying guides are put together, what we check, and what we do not do.
The short version
- We compare products using manufacturer specifications and manuals, published safety guidance, recall records and patterns in owner feedback.
- We do not run a test lab, and we do not claim hands-on testing we have not done.
- Rankings are never based on commission, and brands cannot pay for placement.
- Every recommendation lists its main limitation as well as its strengths.
What we check for every product
- Manufacturer limits. Weight range, age guidance and the developmental point at which the manufacturer says to stop using the product. These limits come first in every review.
- Safety design. Harness type, recline positions, frame stability and anything the manual warns about.
- Motion and controls. The directions it moves in, the number of speeds, and how the settings are changed.
- Power and running cost. Mains, batteries or both, and what that means for day-to-day use.
- Size and portability. Footprint, weight, and whether it folds for storage or travel.
- Comfort and cleaning. Seat materials, newborn support, and whether covers come off for washing.
- Value. How long the product is likely to stay useful, set against its price tier.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturers. Product manuals, official product pages and published specifications.
- Safety authorities. The American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep guidance, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and its recall listings.
- Owner feedback. We read verified-purchase reviews to find problems and praise that come up repeatedly. We do not republish customer star ratings or review counts.
When a detail cannot be confirmed from one of these sources, we leave it out or say that it is unconfirmed.
How to read our scores and price tiers
Editorial score. The score out of 5 on a review is our own summary of how the product compares on the points above. It is an editorial judgment. It is not a laboratory measurement and it is not an average of customer ratings.
Price tiers. We show $, $$ or $$$ instead of dollar amounts, because prices change often and we cannot keep them reliably current. Always check the live price before you buy.
Labels. Labels such as “budget-friendly” or “compact” describe the kind of home or need a product suits. They are not awards from a testing programme.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment, free products or other benefits in exchange for coverage or ranking.
- We do not present research as hands-on testing.
- We do not give medical advice, and we do not suggest that a swing treats or prevents any medical condition.
- We do not describe any swing as a safe place for a baby to sleep.
Safety comes before every recommendation
A baby swing is for awake, supervised time. If your baby falls asleep in a swing, move them to a firm, flat sleep surface. Follow the instructions and limits for the exact model you own, and stop using it when your baby reaches the weight limit, tries to climb out or can sit up unassisted, whichever comes first.
Updates and corrections
Guides are reviewed when a product is replaced, recalled or changed, and the date of the last update appears at the top of each article. If you spot an error or an out-of-date detail, please tell us and we will check it and correct it.
